After three and a half years we finally have baby number two on the way! :D
We started trying in November 2009 but after starting a new cycle in December 2009 I went without a period for eight months. Eight months in which I struggled to get my GP to understand that I KNEW something was wrong. The day before she left to go on maternity leave she referred me to an ob/gyn (who was very nice) who ran all my bloodwork again, said it was normal and started me on the clomid challenge. I did three very long cycles of clomid - 50mg, 100mg and 150mg - without ovulating much less getting pregnant. She referred me to a fertility clinic, Genesis, and preceding our first appointment there the clinic had me go for more bloodwork and an HSG and DH had to go for an SA. We lucked out with the reproductive endocrinologist we were given because in our first appointment I was told I had low thyroid, PCOS and a blockage in my left fallopian tube. DH was given the "super sperm" thumbs up. lol I was put on metformin for the PCOS and referred to an endocrinologist for my thyroid and she put me on synthroid and I went for a tubal cannulation to have the blockage removed. I tried 150mg of clomid again with the metformin with no success and then we tried 5mg femara (letrozole) and I requested that they do a follicle scan so on CD12 I went in and a different RE did my scan and said I had one follicle at 12mm on my right and then she couldn't find my left ovary so called in my regular RE and he found it and there was nothing. I was told to come back in on CD14 and my regular RE did that scan and there was nothing on my right or my left so he sent me for bloodwork and he was right because it came back negative - my body wasn't responding. My next appointment was in January 2012 and I was told I could do ovarian drilling (laparoscopic surgery to basically jumpstart my ovaries) or I could do FSH injections but I'd have to lose weight first and it would be expensive. I felt the ovarian drilling was just wrong and so we took 2012 "off" so I could focus on losing weight though I still charted and we tried when things looked like I might ovulate. We were supposed to start injections in February 2013 but we put them off because of finances and family drama and put them off again in March for purely financial reasons and set things for mid-April.
I asked my RE about trying clomid or femara again since I'd lost weight (40lbs) and he said yes and prescribed me clomid (this was back in Feb) but I couldn't bring myself to pay $100 out of pocket for something that had never worked so I asked to try Femara again (it's covered) and so I took Provera to start a fresh cycle and took Femara and added in Fertili Tea and Ova Boost (Fair Haven Health supplements) and on March 12th I got a digital positive OPK and sure enough, my BBT said I'd ovulated later that same day when I took my temp the next morning (March 13th). On March 17th my daughter, Phoenix, and I left to go and visit my SIL who had recently had her 6th baby (2nd girl) and was just off bedrest. On 12DPO (March 24th) I took an internet cheapie HPT and thought it was negative, chucked it and went to eat breakfast. I came back down a good 30 minutes later and fished it out of the garbage for some reason and there it was staring back at me - a BFP! I couldn't believe it despite those tests never turning positive after the fact but I waited until the next day and tested with two different brans and waited and there they were - two more BFPs! lol I emailed a picture to DH who couldn't see the second line (it was faint) so I had to just tell him. lol He was happy but felt weird that I wasn't telling him in person.
We came home on the 27th and on the 28th I went for my first beta HCG test and the result was 147. I also had my progesterone tested just for peace of mind and it was a nice healthy 58. That night we told our DD, I let DH spill the news: he said "We have something to tell you...Mommy is finally...what?" and she squeaked out "Pregnant?!" lol She's very excited and happy and wanted to touch my tummy even though there's no noticeable change yet. You might think we're crazy to tell her at only 4 weeks pregnant but she's 9 and has wanted to be a big sister since she was 3.5 and we didn't even start TTC until she was almost 6 - plus she's rambunctious and needs a real solid reason not to rough house with Mommy anymore and she's an excellent secret keeper. lol The very next morning DD's greeting to me this morning was "aw, cute little baby...I CAN'T wait!" and I said "Well...you have to." which got "I wish babies didn't take so long!" lol DD has already added a good morning and good night kiss to the baby to her morning and evening routine already. So adorable! lol DH nicknamed baby "Bun" the night I got home and rubs my belly when we're in bed and constantly asks if I'm okay if I so much as make an odd noise...so despite his cautionary words etc (we're not planning on telling family and friends for a bit yet and facebook won't get to know until we're done with the first trimester) I can tell he's pleased even though he keeps saying he's not sure how he feels yet (it's his first pregnancy). I think actions speak louder in this case. :)
On Thursday, April 4th I go in for my second beta - I'm hoping for a number of at least 650 (though more is welcome) if it's doubling just perfectly. lol After that I need to email my RE again and figure out what the next step is (ie: first scan etc) and then I need to start looking into the midwives in my area. I also need to contact the midwife in Smithers, BC because we're moving there at the end of July and she would ultimately be the one delivering. lol
Our EDD is December 3, 2013!
